Standard for forest charting prepared by Forest Dept. of Ministry of State Property. Plan was sent to all forestries over the country together with the printed sample of forest statistics and instructions (see documents 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The efforts on standardizing forest mapping and statistics were done in order to build a countrywide mechanism for forest surveying and management. One of the best known results of these efforts is the next map.

A Map to Revise State of Forests and Forestry in Russia.

Considered to be the first printed forest map of the European Russia. Compiled by Forest Department of the Ministry of State Property. This map is the most known result of a series of efforts on forest cartography and statistics of Forest Dept. (see previous map and documents related to it). The map is reproduced from Russian language article of M. Tsvetkov (First Forest Map of European Russia. Minutes of Forest Institute, Moscow, 1950), [Russian: Перваэ карта лесов Европейской России и некоторые рукописные карты лесов. Труды института леса. 5, 1950]. Besides this printed map there is about one hundred manuscript maps of gubernia (administrative area) forests all over the country stored in the RGIA.

Location: published versions may be found in Map Departments of main libraries such as Russian State Library (former Lenin Library) in Moscow, and, probably, in Russian National Library (former Saltykov-Shedrin Library) in Petersburg, Library of Academy of Sciences in Petersburg and others.
Shows official data of the Ministry of State Property on the distribution of forests in European Russia, state, common and private forests, taxation, prices etc.

Forest map of the northern part of Pereslavl'-Zalesskii uezd.
Russian title: Карта лесных дач, расположенных к северу, северо-востоку и северо-западу от г. Переславля в районе Плещеевского и Борисовского лесничеств Переславского уезда Владимирской губернии.

Though done after 1918 when the Ministry of State property had been dismissed, this map bears the very tradition of  the "old regime" forest cadastre. Sample of forest map having very much in common with modern forest cadastre. It is unclear for me if there was any Forest service at that time in the country.  (I never done XX century history).

Forestries are shown in colour, forest parcels - in numbers. Such maps are accompanied by forest data evaluation - tabular statistics of forest quiality in each parcel.

Forestry officer Bredov was chosen to write the first Russian guidebook on soil science for forestry students and officers. Letter written to him describes the opinion of the Minister of State Property Comte Kiselev on how it must be written. the main wish of the Minister was that the book was to follow the ideas of several foreign scientists named in the letter (lines 6-8). Unfortunately, I was unable to read half of the names.

Program of the 2-nd part of a course on soil science (soil knowledge, to be exact!).

Result of the efforts of forest officer Bredov (see previous file). He wrote the 1st part of the book in a very speedy course and also the program of the 2nd part. I am going to check in the library if there are any books of Bredov on soil, soil chemistry or geology published.
